Standard EN 60335 applies to electrical household appliances for household use. It also describes similar purposes such as for devices used by lay persons in some companies or in agriculture. Considered thereby are devices with a nominal voltage up to maximal 250 V (single phase devices) and 480 V (other devices). Devices falling under EN 60335 series of standards are tested according to part 1. Moreover, requirements of device specific data are described in part 2. Space heaters are thus, for example, tested according to EN 60335-1 for general requirements and EN 60335-2-30 for special requirements. For repairs or repeat tests regulations VDE 0701 and VDE 0702 have to be applied.

European standards must be adopted by all members of the European Committee for standardization (CEN) and of CENELEC in the national standards. Standards by which the electrical safety testing of test systems, multi tester, surge tester, machine tester or compact tester can be carried out are for example: the VDE standard, the UL standard, the IEC standard and the EN standard.
